The Roslin name is known globally - as the founding place of Roslin Institute, the birthplace of Dolly the Sheep and as the possible last resting place of the Holy Grail.
The origins of Roslin lie in Roslin Glen, where the ruins of Rosslyn Castle remain. Parts of the castle date back to 1304, and in 1446 the castle residents, the St Clair family built the world famous Rosslyn Chapel.

The beauty of the chapel and mystery and legend which surrounds it has served to attract visitors from around the world. Rosslyn Chapel's links with the Knights Templar and the Masons are well supported and sealed burial vaults below the chapel are thought to contain the remains of ten Barons of Rosslyn in their full armour.
But many believe these vaults, or other parts of the chapel, may also contain the Holy Grail, or the Ark of the Covenant, or part of the actual cross on which Christ was crucified.
The movie starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou based on Dan Brown’s worldwide bestseller; the ‘Da Vinci Code’ concludes and was filmed at the chapel.
